The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is integral in maintaining homeostasis as ECS receptors are found throughout the body. Functional physiology of the ECS will be reviewed as the framework to incorporate Phyto cannabinoids, especially hemp derived cannabidiol (CBD), as a pathway to modulate the ECS. Clinically, the use of CBD for pain, inflammation, and anxiety will be detailed to enable the clinician to properly advise their patients on the appropriate use of CBD for these and other common conditions seen in everyday practice. The efficacy, safety, dosage, and selection of CBD will be addressed based on current research. First Hour: Introduction to the functional physiology of the endocannabinoid system. Definition and biochemistry of cannabis and cannabinoids. Introduction to hemp derived CBD and general legal concerns. Second Hour: Discussion of the various hemp products available in terms of purity, safety and transparency. Review of current research on the use of CBD for pain, inflammation and mental / emotional health. Dosing guide for CBD use.
